SHS has eliminated standardized tests from the admission process. We will not request, accept or include the results of the HSPT/ISEE in a prospective student’s file.
Lower School is a time of transition and tremendous growth. It also presents the unique opportunity for children to further develop their independence and personal responsibility. SHS fosters a rich atmosphere in which this phase of learning and self-discovery is cultivated and celebrated. Kindergarten - Grade 5 students engage in dynamic curricular and co-curricular work which nurtures the whole child: intellect, spirit, and body.
SHS fosters an environment where students learn foundational concepts in STEAM and Language with interest, joy and strength. Our holistic approach encourages young learners to create with their minds, voice, hands and instruments.
Discovery
Academic growth is tied to self-discovery. Within the curriculum, students also explore their own heritage and history; giving them a sense of belonging and purpose in the context of the larger world.
Teamwork & Inclusivity
Students are encouraged to think about their connectedness to the broader community in which they discover partners, teammates and friends. Together, students learn and solve problems with respect for the unique perspectives of others and for the environment they share.
Leadership
Students become leaders when they learn to take responsibility, show up for others and honor their own gifts. Teachers work together with students to uncover their strengths and create opportunities for them to shine.
Faith in Action
In Lower School, students continue developing their sense of personal faith through Sacramental preparation alongside celebration of the many faiths represented within our community and participation in our shared traditions.
Independence
Students gain the tools to develop together and individually. Whether on campus building skills or at home in the virtual classroom, teachers give students the guidance and support to feel confident when they branch out on their own.
