SHS has eliminated standardized tests from the admission process. We will not request, accept or include the results of the HSPT/ISEE in a prospective student’s file.
Sacred Heart’s founder, St. Madeleine Sophie Barat, saw the school as an extension of the home. When kids are loved, they learn. Our Montessori Preschool program offers our youngest learners an opportunity to explore the world around them, expand their knowledge, and gain independence with an abundance of love.
The Montessori Method begins with a fundamental premise: that children are naturally eager for knowledge and capable of initiating learning in a supportive, thoughtfully prepared environment. Montessori teachers are keen observers who value the development of the whole child-physical, social, emotional and cognitive. The classroom becomes a place where young students develop coordination, concentration, order, and independence.
Each day begins with special rituals: a personal greeting between child and teacher, as well as teacher led greetings between classmates. We believe these initial moments of personal connection are essential: bolstering a sense of self-confidence and inclusion that permeates the student experience.
Building Bridges
Montessori methods are combined with research-based programs as children enter Kindergarten. Specialized curricula successfully build a strong academic bridge from Preschool to Kindergarten, and beyond.
Welcoming Faith
Our goal is that each child encounters the love of Jesus through action. Modeling love through our behavior, listening, sharing, accepting, singing, praying; celebrating our similarities and our differences. We care for one another and we find ways to help.
Outdoor Classroom
The Outdoor Classroom is a highlight of our program. Spectacular outdoor spaces on campus enable our children to experience the change of seasons, weather patterns, planting and harvesting in the garden, observing the farm animals, and most importantly the impact we have on the environment around us.
Play
Everyday, we embrace freedom, choice, and movement! Students learn to nurture relationships and stretch their imagination through play. Inside and outside of the classroom, on the playground, courts, and fields we encourage play, as a means to instill a life-long love of physical and social health.
Resilience
From different developmental stages to new experiences, we give children the support to acknowledge their emotions while they evolve. If at first they don’t succeed, they learn something new! This is an important stage where an abundance of love, and patience for self and others makes all the difference.
