Prep report: SH Prep into semis of water polo tourney

The Boys Water Polo team advanced to the semi-finals of the S&R Invitational Tournament by beating Irvine 16-2, and Coronado 13-6.
Boys Water Polo Senior Larsen Weigle made four of his seven shots, Griffen Price saved seven of the 11 shots he faced and Sacred Heart Prep downed Coronado, 13-6, in the quarterfinals of the S&R Sport Invitational at Irvine High on Friday.
The Gators (12-1) opened the tournament with a 16-2 victory over host Irvine, with Kyle Ballack scoring three goals.
SH Prep meets Foothill Santa Ana (11-5) in Saturday's semifinal match at 3:45 p.m. Bellarmine and Huntington Beach meet in the other semifinal. The championship game is slated for 8:05 p.m.
The Gators scored the first 11 goals of their win over Irvine as nine different players scored. James Plaschke, Luke Johnston, Weigle, Will Riley and Luke Weigle each added a pair of goals. Overall, SHP made 16 of its 23 shots (.696), including 3 of 5 on power plays.
Against Coronado, Larsen Weigle scored consecutive goals to snap a 1-1 tie and the Gators scored five straight to take control of the contest. Johnston's goals with 2:33 remaining to play put Sacred Heart Prep ahead by nine.
Riley, Johnston and Walker Seymour each added a pair of goals while Xavier Marco made three steals to go with a goal.
Girls Tennis
The No. 2 doubles team of Lindsay Marcus and Sara McGrath won a third set tiebreaker to help Sacred Heart Prep sweep the three doubles matches in a 4-3 loss at St. Ignatius in a nonleague match Friday.
The Gators (8-4, 5-0) host Menlo School in a battle of West Bay Athletic League unbeaten teams at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
