Senior Larsen Weigle was named the 2018 CCS Water Polo Player of the Year. Weigle scored 93 goals on the season and had 11 assists while leading the Gators to a 26-2 overall record. Teammates Andrew Churukian, Walker Seymour, and Griffin Price joined Weigle on the 1st team, while Will Riley (2nd Team), and Kyle Ballack (Honorable Mention) were also honored.
Sacred Heart Prep senior Larsen Weigle, who is headed to Stanford in the fall, was named the Central Coast Section Player of the Year by a panel of water polo coaches it was announced Tuesday.
Weigle led the Gators (26-2) to one of their finest years in program history. The season was shortened because of air quality issues from the Camp Fire in Butte County. The Central Coast Section Open Division contest was never played and the Northern California tournament was canceled.
Weigle, along with first-team picks Andrew Churukian, also headed to Stanford, Walker Seymour, on his way to Harvard, and freshman goalie Griffin Price, did help SH Prep win the West Catholic Athletic League title and beat second-place Bellarmine three times on the season.
The Gators also won the S&R Invitational in Irvine and then won the North vs. South Challenge, hosted by Sacred Heart Prep, for the first time.
Menlo School senior Sam Untrecht, who will play at California in the fall, was also named to the first team. Untrecht was named the Peninsula Athletic League Player of the Year and helped the Knights reach the semifinal;s of the CCS Open Division tournament.
St. Francis senior Frank Lozinski, who attended the Challenger School in Palo Alto, and Lancers junior Berk Aksoy, who plays with the Stanford Foundation Club, were also named to the first team along with Bellarmine's Gabe Discipulo, who will join Untrecht at Cal, and Dominick Kirk, Valley Christian's Logan Sutter and St. Ignatius' Alex Peterson.
Sacred Heart Prep's Will Riley was joined by Menlo's Connor Enright and Maxwell Patterson on the second team, while SHP's Kyle Ballack and Menlo's Noah Housenbold were third team honorees.
Honorable mention went to Menlo-Atherton's Cooper Gran and Zach de Haaff, Menlo's Connor MacMitchell and Josh Poulos and Palo Alto's Ben Rapperport.
