The Sacred Heart Prep girls water polo team handed first-year coach Jamie Frank a victory in his debut on Thursday, beating visiting Castilleja 9-4 in the season opener for both teams.
Frank is no stranger to Sacred Heart Prep, having assisted boys coach Brian Kreutzkamp for a number of years before replacing Jon Burke, who relocated, with his young family, to the Monterey area, where he will become the Director of College Counseling at York School.
In addition to helping the Gators win three Central Coast Section Division II titles and last fall's inaugural CCS Open Division title, Frank led the Stanford Water Polo Foundation's U16 boys to two consecutive National Junior Olympic titles.
Eleanor Facey gave SH Prep the early lead but Minhee Chung and Anjali Kambham scored consecutive goals to put Castilleja ahead, 2-1, with 2:19 remaining to play in the first period.
SHP responded with seven consecutive goals and held Casti scoreless over as 14:14 span late into the third period.
Sacred Heart Prep senior goalkeeper Nellie McAdams was a big reason why Castilleja found it difficult to get the ball into net as she recorded 15 saves and a .789 save percentage.
Claire Pisani, who scored twice for Castilleja, finally ended the drought with just under two minutes left in the third period.
Facey was one of three SHP players with two goals. She was joined by younger sister Annabel Facey and Alexandra Szczerba.
Castilleja travels to Los Altos for a 10 a.m. nonleague game on Saturday while SH Prep hosts Campolindo at 11 a.m., also Saturday.
