Boys & Girls Cross Country Shines at WBAL Center Meet at Baylands Park

The SHP Cross Country program had a strong performance in yesterday's WBAL Center Meet held at Baylands Park. The boys, paced by individual winner, Max Cluss, finished 1st overall, while the Girls, led by Geena Gibbons, finished 2nd. 

Max Cluss, Calvin Katz and Axel de Vernou finished 1-2-3 to help Sacred Heart Prep win the team title at the WBAL Center Meet at Baylands Park on Thursday. Cluss won in 16:18.3, nearly 22 second ahead of his teammates. Matthew Chun placed ninth for the Gators.

Carlos Anye Nunez placed seventh in 17:15.3 and Christopher Mansilla was 10th for Eastside Prep, which placed fourth overall.

Priory was fifth, led by Jason Draxler Sadler and Jack Dempsey, who finished 13th and 18th, respectively.

On the girls side, all five Menlo scorers finished among the top 12 to earn the top spot with 29 points. 

The King's Academy’s Anna Mokkapati, a Woodside resident, won the race in 18:20.2. In all, local runners took care of the top 13 spots, 17 of the top 18 and 21 of the top 25.

Charlotte Tomkinson led the Knights with a second-place finish, edging Castilleja's Tevah Gevelber 18:38.7 to 18:41.9. Menlo's Kyra Pretre followed in fourth. SHP's Genna Gibbons, Castilleja's Abigail Krenz, Menlo's Pia Gallo, SHP's Keemya Bashiri, Menlo's Marisa Castagna, SHP's Luci Lambert and Castilleja's Lauren Traum filled out the top 13.

Eszter Horvath was Priory's top runner, finishing 18th, and Pinewood's Emily Takara was 20th. Eastside Prep's Ariana Aranda placed 22nd.
