Sacred Heart was more than just a home for me as a boarding student of four years from 1972-1976; it was my refuge of safety and recovery from family tragedy. Sacred Heart became a fortress of protection for me as I began to absorb the Goals and Criteria which would form the foundation of my life’s philosophy; influencing personal and career choices. For the first time in my childhood, I could focus on becoming a classically educated young woman. The Sisters and staff enveloped me, nurturing me with their spirituality, their wisdom, their kindness, and clear behavioral expectations. They taught me the importance of solid study habits, the satisfaction found in rigorous intellectual pursuits, and excellence in performance on tasks. I learned perseverance; working my way through, not around challenges. Finally, I learned to value the acceptance of personal responsibility. My years at Sacred Heart healed my spirit, taught me self-advocacy, and restored my faith in the future. For these reasons, I have left a bequest to Sacred Heart from my Estate. I want to ensure that other students emerging from difficult circumstances have the same opportunities I did. This bequest is a profound Thank You to all those who helped arm me with intellectual knowledge supported by faith in God. This gift allows me to be able to continue making a difference in the lives of others, far into the future, beyond my own life. -Lindsay (Galloway) Hill Boarder, Class of 1976
