In Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division action, Yianni Gardner scored on a fielding error with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift host Sacred Heart Prep past Capuchino, 2-1, on Wednesday.

Reece Lindquist gets credit for the game-winning RBI because it was less than two outs and a double play cannot be assumed.

The Gators (16-5, 6-2) scored without the benefit of a hit. Gardner and John McGrory, who drove in SHP's first run, walked to open the 11th. Mathew Jackson was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Eric DeBrine, who had two hits in the game, lined out to right field just ahead of Lindquist, who drilled the ball that was fumbled.

Gardner also scored the first run after he singled, stole second and scored on McGrory's sharp single to center field.

The pitching on both sides was sensational. Cap's first two pitchers combined to throw a six-hitter over 10 innings.

Nathan Fleischli allowed a run on four hits and three walks over seven innings. He struck out four. Fleischli retired nine of the last 11 batters he faced.

Cacchione followed with four scoreless innings. After he allowed a double to the first batter he faced, Cacchione retired the next 12 in succession, including one strikeout, to earn the win.

Sacred Heart Prep, which has played four extra-inning games, travels to Capuchino on Friday for a 4 p.m. league contest.

The Gators, who are 5-3 in games decided by two runs or less, moved into first place following Burlingame's 2-0 victory over Carlmont. SHP is a half-game ahead of Hillsdale, which rallied to beat host Menlo School, 8-1.

Boys Golf

In the West Bay Athletic League, Sacred Heart Prep downed host The King's Academy, 196-219, at Sunnyvale Golf Club on Wednesday.

Finn O'Kelly and Brad Oliver each fired a 2-over 37 to lead the Gators (6-6, 6-4). Gino Palatella came in with a round of 39 and Anderson Page shot a 40.

SHP will play at the WBAL tournament, which is scheduled for Tuesday at Coyote Creek GC in San Jose. Tee time is 12:50 p.m.
