At SHS, sustainability is not just an academic concept, but rather a community-wide commitment to improve the school, the local neighborhood, and larger world in which we live, and above all, to live up to the standards detailed in our Goals and Criteria, which guides us to teach respect for creation and prepare our students to be good stewards of the earth's resources.

Made manifest in numerous ways through our curriculum, our partnership with SHS families, student- and faculty-led projects, and an emphasis on ensuring the preservation of our historic campus through energy efficient new construction, sustainability initiatives reflect our institutional belief that a commitment to intentional, individual action results in a greater good for the many.

    Careful planning, renovation, and construction have helped maintain the historic SHS campus, which is home to five LEED-certified structures and the first library in the country to earn Net Zero Energy Building certification.
